Safe to say you don't need to be a programmer to catch on to it.

GW2 won't be released for about 2 years. Guess how long gw1 has been out for? About 2 years. We're only halfway there from the time gw came out on the first day. We're getting WAY ahead of ourselves here.

People make it seem like it's all coming to an end, but we're only HALFWAY THERE. Chill out, and just focus on hard mode for now.

We only just got over the winter, and now we have to wait another winter just for a little expansion, so I wouldn't worry about EOTN either.

Change is good, remember people? That's why you're with guild wars TO BEGIN WITH, otherwise you'd be WoWies.

WAY too much is being assumed so early. A lot of this is just a compilation of rough, unrefined ideas from ANET. Even if they GUARANTEED that all of these things were being implemented into GW2, I bet you under 30% of the game will be what you expected it to be when it comes out.

Right now, the only thing we know for sure is that a new guild wars is coming out. It will likely have better graphics. It will have something to do with Tyria. We think it will be situated in Tyria, but that, like almost everything else, may very well change in 2 years.

Your efforts aren't in vain. Just think of it as a gigantic update with a character wipe. It's not like you're playing an ENTIRELY new game. Guild wars is guild wars. If you're pro at gw1, then chances are you will learn and grow immensely quickly in gw2.

My point is, you're all so worried about change. Change has not happened yet. So play on.

So this means we're going back to 6 professions?! Ugh how could you do this to me Anet?! Even WoW has 9 classes!

Just kidding and teasing Gaile

I really shouldn't enjoy reading complaints as much as I do. The only valid complaint I can see people having is if they expected more campaigns out of GW1, but so much of the speculation and flames about potential changes is GW2 is ridiculous since much of the game is probably still in planning. It might be nice to see another expansion for GW1 after GW:EN, but before GW2 (which probably would depend on the sales of GW:EN, but I hope it's at least considered). And of course most people still haven't read the PC Gamer article. I haven't yet, but I'm always optimistic when it comes to Guild Wars.

Finally someone who notes that it's NOT very easy to make some changes.

I like the way ANet is handling GW2, and I especially love the concept of World vs World battles.

Though this is what you'll hear a lot:

"OMG NOOBS, DON'T KILL THE DRAGON, DON'T KILL IT NOOBS, THIEVES GIVE BETTER ITEMS!!!111"

I second/third/whatever the request to get this sticky-ed. Great post, Coyote! <3
(I read the article, and I giggle quite a bit about the things some people who haven't read it make up. It's even worse here where I live, since we only have the english source so far and some people's English is so bad that they are still arguing over whether Sylvari, Norns and others will be playable in GWEN or not. It's hilarious.)

Well, it's funny but it can be forgiven given their lack of understanding.

The bunch of QQers who can't stop moaning all over the threads as if their life was dependant on GW, as if their characters were the preservation of their oh so highly-spiritual soul - I am betting that more than 80% of them will get GW2 anyway. Their outscreams are a sure sign of a addicted mind.

GW2 is 2 years ahead, the BETA didn't even start yet, there's a lot to be changed, most concepts yet to be revealed, but no, hey, let's start whining about the new levelling system of which we have NO single clue or evidence.

Regarding free-movement control. Does anyone believe in a possible coexistence between moving freely and NON-autoattacks (shooting/hitting yourself?) Maybe that would be a too fundamental change in GW's system.

Would you like it?

Sure, but it still starts to be annoying when one half of the forum provides very good translation and the other half either ignores it or doesn't believe it (either because the article asys something they don't like or because it says something that contradics something they've made up. Not understanding something is fine, but being so ignorant? Oh well.

You mean that the character can walk around freely but not hurt himself (for example by falling off a cliff)? I think it's possible if there are, well, limits to free movement, and there are always at least some. *tilts head* I don't see the problem, but maybe I just don't get the question. I feel stupid. >.<

Haha, ok, that was a good one. No suicides planned at all. I was trying to describe a totally free movement-control where you'd have to click to perform a shoot or a slash, as in a shooter or hack'n slay like Rune contrary to the current autoattack-system.

Is it ok if I post a link to this page on the ""Guild Wars Reborn" thread?
It might help some people out a bit, in term of understanding what's been going on and what's going to happen. Y'know knock some senses into them.

I think the first post has already been quoted there somewhere on page 69, but it sure can't hurt to point it out again...

Nice summary ChaoticCoyote. Finally a thread to link to when yet another person on this forum is yelling: 'GW2=WoW' or 'GW is gonna die'.

Ah, that's what you mean, thanks for clearing this up! Well, I'd be in favour of keeping the current autoattack-system or modifying it slightly, but that might just be because I'm not a fan of shooters and the like. Can it work? If it's carefully/well done, pretty much everything can work, but I think as long as the focus is on using skills and such, it would be at least problematical.

TES: Oblivion might be the best example but that would definitely change the current system by a whole (change GW fundamentally), and I doubt that will happen. Let's wait and see.

I can see it now, hey Wammo I bet you 10 gold you can't jump off that cliff and survive only using Mending II

Personally i'm welcoming the change, granted i'm also worried but i'm not about to slag it off yet and by the sounds of it they're using some elemented from CoH / V which I think is no bad thing.

That is clearly a bet you would lose. Mending is basically another way of saying "invincible".

It used to be, now invincibility requires you to cast "restful breeze". If you want to win the bet you make sure the jump takes longer than 11 seconds.

Play more RA to find out the latest on invincimodes!

But this is SOOOOOO true!!!

All of those "well that's it, /uninstall" kids are going to go home tonight, boot up their PC's and farm UW or FOW or Shiver or Trolls or whatever, just like they do everynight... LOL

I admit, I am a GW addict right now... Can't get enough, when I drive home from work every second in the traffic counts... lol, But I'm not gonna stop playing the game i love so much, just because I wont be able to play it in 3 years time... I mean, FFS, Come ON!!! lol... That's like saying, they replacing my MX5 with a new model next year, so what's the point in driving mine anymore???

hahahaha

Personally, it's too far in the future to bother me right now...
